W30 is a high performance 400 with D heads (1968-69 or 455 in the Hurst) or 455 (1970-72)with F headsin 1970. A W31 is a HP 350.
As for rarity a 70 442 is usually what you'll see most for 442's at an Oldsmobile show. This year probably has the most information available vs. other years of 442's on the internet or in print.
It's hard to appraise a car without seeing it, but as the saying goes, it worth what somebody is willing to give you and you are willing to accept.
Come to our Oldsmobile show in Olds, AB. this year and see some nice examples.
thanks thats what i was thinking cause i never herd of a W-25 442 with exception to (http://idaho.kijiji.com/classic-cars...ar/?ad=1006727) just the W-25 hood option....
so its just a w_30 ....man i would love to have that!!!! right now i have a 69 cutlass s in awsome shape just ripping it apart going to do a nut and bolt frame off ressto on her planned on just doing a little body work as it was all origanal metal and the front fenders were bubling and when i took the grinder to them i opened up about a 1.5 -2" hole not bad for the only rust on the car ...so far (still gotta take out the front and back glass ) im sure it might need a little work !!!
but u know how that goes i wanna drive it but i want it too look like it just rolled off the assembly line so im gona rip it down to bare metal and spend all my $$$$ i dont really have ... i also got a 69 cutalss supreme sittin outside the garage i stol the buckets and console and dash (the culass s used to be in vegas for a ime so the dash was in rough shape ) but as far as taking it apart i dont even need any penetrating oil just a 1/2 " ratchet . wich is extremly nice cause i grew up in eastren canada where even cars 10 years and newer you would be cutting up with a tourch and tapping anything undernieth a car and breking hewads off bolts and **** like that so to work on this with a ratchet and no snipe on it is just a treat
but any how what do u think about that 442 i really want somthing with a 455 and the look of the 70 really appeals to me but i dont think its worth 15000 i might drive down and grab it for like7-9 big ones just cant tell from pics if it would have any frame dammage but heck i gotta frame sittin outside ??????? but the big question is would the wife let me get 1 more ????? she allredy gave up the garrage to one and half the driveway to another hahaha oh well one can always dream !!!!!!!
ill throw up some picks of what im doin latter today and thanks fer yer guys ansers i kinda thought i was askin a dumb question but what the heck .... ah...

The "W" codes are simply the RPO codes (regular production option) for the option in question. All GM options have such a code. For example, there's A01 for tinted glass, G80 for limited slip differential, and M40 for the TH400 trans. Olds used W to designate performance options. The W30,31,32,33,and 34 options were the better known performance packages, which often included some of the other W-options such as the W25 O.A.I system. Others included W26 Hurst Dual Gate shifter, W27 aluminum differential housing, W29 442 appearance and handling option (used in model years where the 442 was not a separate model with unique VIN), W35 rear deck spoiler, and W37 dual plate clutch.
w25 is option number for the ram air hood (or OAI hood as Oldsmobile labelled it!)
w30 & w31 are the option numbers you could order on specific Cutlass or 442 cars . The w30 option was for the high performance big block 455 motor package. The w31 wsa for the high performance 350 option package (that came balance and blueprinted)
Though I don't have specific numbers to quote you right now, out of total production numbers I believe the rough numbers would be - 2/3 were automatics and 1/3 were 4 speed cars. So yes, 4 speed cars are more rare!
If you were looking for a 1970 ram air hood (call it OAI hood, W30 ram air hood, W25 hood.. all the same thing!), be prepared to spend $1500+ for a decent once (probably more like $2500 for a nice original). PartsPlace sells an aftermarket one for $850 which isn't bad (I just got one for my Rallye 350). There is a fellow on eBay (user ID stillgottalotta) who has one for sale for $1800 right now!
cheers
