1968 vent window inquiry;

For 1968 I noticed at least two designs for vent window pillars. Questions; Are the hardtop and convertible the same? I found two designs on the same car (a convertible). In the first, the large pot metal chrome member -the surface that mates to the rubber is smooth. The second design has a lip, like a troth and curved return at the top. #9712505LH and #9712547LH respectively.
I also found some posts that are 1/2" taller than others. Can someone shed some light on these parts for purpose of restoration? I also understand these parts are the same for all four GM divisions. Thanks

There are FOUR different vent window part numbers for each side in 1968.

In 68 The holiday coupe and convertible are different. Though they will interchange as the OP has noticed. The one with the trough is the one specificly for the convertible. This is a 68 only deal. To my knowledge in 69 they used the same coupe/conv. without the trough.

68 hardtop and convertible are diff..the convert has the trough to control wind noise and to grip the weather strip better

they interchange, and most people have no idea theres a diff...concours resto type cars should prob get the right part, but you can use either with no real probs..

my 68 ragtop has a correct one on the pass side and a hardtop piece on the drivers...and it works fine

i just walked out and measured them, on my car theres no height difference...i knew there wasnt..but i had to check after you raised the doubt...

they hit the top frsme in the exact same spot etc..and the tape measure doesnt lie..so who ever said the convert is taller or wider..is not telling the facts
