1968 Oldsmobile Toronado

I am restoring a 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado. The carburetor is I believe from a 1972 Oldsmobile, Rochester number 7042252rf. It seems to have an electric choke. There is one small tab which looks like it may have had an electrical connection. If anyone is familiar with this carb, can you confirm if electric supply is required and if so from where.

regards

7042252 is definitely a 1972 Toro carb. It did not come with an electric choke from the factory, someone converted it. Post a photo of the choke coil so we know exactly what you have.

Hi Joe,
Here are pictures of carb.

Do I need to connect tab at bottom of coil to an electrical source?

Yes. That's just a later-model GM electric choke coil, which is an easy way to convert a hot air choke to electric. You can see the pocket for the original divorced choke below the coil in your photo. Whoever put that later model carb on your car realized that they couldn't use the original choke setup and converted it to electric. It will probably run fine, but the 1972 carb won't have the same jetting as did your original due to emissions and low compression on the 72 application.

As for connecting the choke, read this thread.
