I like the color variation - black with white top and red interior. Only issue with a white convertible top that I've had is they tend to get dirty over time and hard to get "nice and really white" clean. But that color variation would look sharp. Is your car a Cutlass or a 4-4-2? The VIN will provide the answer. If the VIN reads 336678M------, it's a Cutlass. If it reads 344678M------, it's a 4-4-2. Lansing used the same cowl tag for both the Cutlass V8 and the 4-4-2 for the '68 model year (and, as I understand, part or all of the '69 model year).
Great information, Thank you. The only difference is the top is white.
Probably not the original top. A daily driver or often driven car would likely have had at least one new top installed in 54 years.
Vert tops wear out relatively quickly if exposed to daily driving and not well cared for.
Black Black Red is a very cool combo. There is a triple black 69 vert lurking around my neighborhood...sharp too.
Sorry for digging up this old thread, but my question is related. I'm trying to figure out how my cowl tag decodes, everything checks out except for the trim number and seat type. The '68 Olds SM shows the trim number as being 3 digits, followed by a lettered seat code:
My cowl tag just shows a trim number (no seat code):
I've not been able to find the documentation that shows what "950" means, or what a "blank" seat code means (my car came with black bench seats). Can someone please point me to the documentation that shows what "950" trim number means? TIA.

Your 950 trim code is your seat code. Black Bench.
I've never seen the letter after the trim code on a cowl tag in 68. There was no reason to add the "v" after the trim code because cloth seats got a different number and cloth was only available in 4 doors and Vista's
