1968 body part interchangeability
Hello, it has been awhile since I have posted anything her, but I need a little help. can anyone tell me if the doors, fenders, hood, etc. , from a 1968 Delmont convertible will fit any other 1967-68 olds, such as a cutlass, or they Delmont only ? any help would be appreciated . thank you. --- Jim

Delmont, Delta, and Delta Custom - B-body only. The Cutlass is an A-body and is completely different and nothing interchanges. The front fenders from a Ninety Eight will interchange also, but holes for trim will be different. Doors from a 67 will interchange with a 68, but fenders, trunk, etc are one-year-only.

Actually, the reason I inquired about the interchangeability, is because I am thinking about selling, or parting the 68 Delmont out. the car belongs to my son, and there is a long story I do not want to get into, but the short of it is over 10 years ago ( when he was just a young kid ) he let a buddy talk him into taking the car to a body shop and have them "restore the car" In the end they completely disassembled the car, and I mean completely, then let it set, and did very little work, even though the kid gave them 10K up front. ( all this without my knowledge ). In the end I retrieved the car in pieces ( as much as we could find ) I think I have most of it except the special Delmont trim emblems and the correct nuts and bolts for the fenders and doors. The son has completely lost interest in it and it has been sitting at my place for the last 6 years. I have to get him to make a decision as to whether to try and sell/part it out and for how much, or do we just scrap the whole thing. bad part is , this was a running driving car. It is/was a 68 convertible

If all you are missing are badging and door/fender hardware, why not reassemble it and put her back on the road? Seems like a great Father/Son project to erase the less than positive experience of being hosed by a disreputable body shop (and I hope you or your son got some qualified legal advice on holding the responsible party/parties financially accountable). Your profile indicates you hail from Alaska; mid to late 60s B/C Body Oldsmobiles are not the most popular classic cars around so not sure if you would have a market (outside of local to you) to part it out given the potential shipping costs of sending anything but the smallest/lightest of items to the lower 48 or further.

67 D88Custom , I have given it some thought, the kid has no interest in the car any longer, I am a retired mechanic by trade, and have the knowledge to do the work, but I am almost 70, and have health issues that prevent me from doing much of anything as far as working on cars go. As I said in an earlier post the car is completely apart, and I mean to a bare shell. Since I did not take it apart, and am not that familiar with the GM line of vehicles, it would be difficult for me to assemble the car, especially with no help. Thanks for the advise though, I appreciate it. Like you said there is not much demand for this model, even though it is a convertible. Especially in Alaska

68 Delmont, I can empathize with your situation - always difficult when the spirit is willing but the body not so much. Another possibility may be to see if any local high school/vocational school/trade school would want it as a teaching tool/student project. Might be able to recover some of the lost value in the form of tax benefits for charitable donation and at the same time pass on something to a new generation of car guys and gals. Just a random thought. Good luck.
