1968 455

I just bought a 455 removed from a low mile 1968 toronado. My hopes are that it has a steel crank.

I've bought 2 68' toro 455's in my days of searching for motors. Niether of them had it Check the date casting on the back of the block by the dist. I think if it was made within the first quarter of the year 0-90 in the julian code. then you got a good chance of it being it, both of mine were cast about mid year. Good luck!!

There's about a 99.9% probability that it is cast.

Look at the crank where the flywheel bolts to. If there is a U shape cutout it is cast. If there is a Check mark style cutout then it is steel.

The steel forged crank is over rated, It weighs 6 lbs more then the N cast crank and puts more stress on the mains. I have a forged steel crank and decided to not use it after talking to my engine builder and will soon post it for sale. The cast crank with survive fine a 500 hp. Just my opinion
