I recommend Hooker headers, have to check application as some headers do not fit a column shift auto trans.... for sure the brake line junction block will need to be moved to the top of the frame for clearance. On the passenger side one edge of the upper control arm may hit one tube. Its easy to remove just a bit of that control arm.

Hmmm not to be a smartazz but you asked about headers for a 67 and Hooker headers seem to be what is recommended from those who have installed them. If someone can recommend Flowtech for a 67 that would be good too. I installed Flowtech on a BB 72 Cutlass.... severe tube flattening was required for fit..... therefore not recommended.

Not cheap, but these are the best. American racing headers.

If you go to Summit Racing you can read the fitment and installation instructions for the Hooker Headers

Here's an interesting read on the subject. Summit has one review on these headers, someone with a 1966 Cutlass. The review was positive.

I'm always looking to learn, and I've seen this statement a number of times here on CO. With that in mind, What makes these ARH headers so much better than the other manufacturers units that makes the ARH units cost so much? One statement on the linked ad says specifically that ALL American Racing Headers Exhaust Systems are for OFF-ROAD use only. What would be the reasoning for this statement?

They are not emissions legal, so they let you know that if you use them on a street vehicle its on you. But, most states dont care, but the ones that do will fine you if they catch you with a non-compliant exhaust.

As far as why theyre the best. Moderm materials(stainless), modern design(make more power, hand built.

Flowtech headers will fit. I put them on my 67 with a 350 block engine. Passenger side fit unmodified. No clearance issues at all. Driver side needed to be massaged in two locations, one for the motor mount and one for the starter. I suspect that at least the mount location would not need clearancing on the 400 engine. The starter may not need clearancing on the big block either but I'm not sure on that. They are budget oriented so the collector gaskets that come with are paper junk so get some good ones. My good ones came with the exhaust system from JEGs.

the starter is no problem just go with a mini starter. looks like summit's headers are the same as doug's headers.

I did use a mini starter but the battery connection is on the side so I had to make clearance for that.
