1967 Cutlass Bench Seat w/ Headrests
1967 Cutlass Bench Seat w/ Headrests
I would like to get some pictures to compare to a seat that I am being offered as an original cutlass Bench Seat with headrests. It does not have the fold down armrest. I don't have any pictures at this time of the actual seat I may pick up. If anyone has any that can be posted - I would appreciate it very much.

This is mine. Currently mid project. That is the correct bench, correct armrest, correct passenger side seatback. The driver's side is from a 72 and is slightly bigger, and fits better, so I may have the other side done as well (car came to me without the driver side back).
The only headrests offered on 67s were buckets. The split bench with armrest is not the strato-bench option either (that was bucket backs on a bench bottom) but was a normal type bench with narrower backs to clear the armrest. It was standard on Cutlass Supreme, and I think it may have been a negative cost (cheaper than standard) on the 442, where I think buckets were standard.
My 442 came columned and benched, and I'll stick to that. Floor shifts are for manual transmissions, in my opinion.
According to the Optional Equipment list I went through on the wildaboutcars website - the Split bench (no arm rest) was available in the Post cars. The Arm rest bench (strato-bucket) was available in the Holiday coupe & convertible Cars. The A82 Head Rest option was available on the 38/07 (post) and 38/67 (vert). It also indicates that A82 was only available along with the A52 (split bench) or the a65 (arm-rest bench)... For my purposes the Post car I have was available with the bench seat with headrest... I'm seriously looking at buying the seat but wanted to confirm my suspicions either through actual pictures or a more knowledgeable source on here...

The bench you have is the one that I was familiar with. I was not familiar with the headrest option but according to the literature it was at least available and I will try to get some pictures of the seat asap that I have been looking to purchase. I didn't want to purchase it if it is not the correct seat for my car.

Go to a Corvette catalog and look up 66-65 headrests as they are available repoped for the Corvette. They are the same optional headrest that was offered on most 66-67 GM cars. Every 66-67 Oldsmobile product could be order with them and came in two different styles one for regular bench seats and a second style used with the strato back seats.
On the bench seat it was a single post headrest with a sewed vinyl cover and a rectangular shape(think a loaf of bread). I'll measure one for you.

Measurements are 11 inches by 6 inches with about 7 inches of the flat chrome post visible. On the bench seat style the mounting bracket is welded to the internal seat frame. Has a chrome plated steel bezel visible were the post goes into the seat.

Purchased the Bench Seat in question
Here are some pics of the seat in question. I'm into this seat $100 and am hopeful that its correct. The side trim looks to match other 67 bench seats I've seen as well as the 67 Post car it came from. If I've made an error and this isn't a 67 seat, well I guess I can use it anyway.
The bar on these headrests are marked with some numbers. Also, it appears the 3 seatbelt clips on the front of the seat bottom are intact. I guess these were used to keep the seatbelts in place while driving... I had not seen them before but all three are in good shape with no cracks. The headrest inlet trim is plastic (blue) - I will be painting this black to match the new upholstery I purchase. Tracks, springs are all in good order. I'm going to need to clean them up and lubricate but they were free moving pieces so the Arizona climate at least helped these survive. Didn't do much for the vinyl/cloth though.
I've attached pictures to help out the next guy looking for info on this seat type.

Bench Seat appearance
I want to thank Kurt for providing me with this info. I am now searching for an upholstery kit that includes the cloth inset as shown in the pictures. My seat should be black on black. If anyone is aware of a supplier or perhaps has the dimensional information for the stitch patterns so I can take the seats to a custom shop. - it would be greatly appreciated.
I also found out from Kurt that the seat itself with the headrest provision (A82) was available in a wide variety of models but was subsequently ordered fewer total times than the "rare" Strato Bucket seat headrests (A81). Only about 1,691 total ordered as of the June Productions numbers. Compared to 1833 of the Strato Head Rest. These numbers are through June and do not include the final month of July.

try SMS in Oregon
they can make or supply you with OEM matched material
The Post cars can be be a pain for finding parts for sometimes but worth it…. hands down a great interior design over the holiday cars …just my opinion lol

Greg,
Door panels and seat upholstery for the 67 Sport Coupe are both available in black vinyl. We do not offer cloth on anything prior to 1974 as it’s a different color, weave, pattern, knap and material nearly every single year, as well as many cloth options unique to individual applications. This makes offering correct cloth impossible from a financially responsible standpoint.
We do not sell retail, so we cannot provide you with the parts; they must be ordered through an authorized retailer which we are happy to help you locate if you need assistance. The part numbers for seat upholstery and door panels in black are as follows:
Front split bench upholstery 67CS10BS
Sedan rear seat upholstery 67CS10SS
Front door panels 67CD10S
Sedan rear door panels 67CD10SS
If you need help locating a retailer you can use the “Dealer List” link in the upper right corner of our website to search by make/model or by location. You can also call us 502-425-3766 and our Sales staff will be happy to assist you."
Here, try buying something you really don't want that we would be happy to sell you!

Yep Pui will not sell retail. Your only hope is SMS and that they will have correct cloth. They can make your door panels too as that is where I got my vinyl ones from. Not cheap but most things arent and I did have to modify the mounts to get them to work but they are nice. The repo vinyl door panels that PUI makes are not heat stamped vinyl and look pretty crappy as far as I am concerned. If SMS does have the correct cloth I suggest a local upholstery shop sew up your seat covers so you can be sure the fit is good.

I am not sure about the door panels. I think they came both ways cloth/vinyl or just vinyl with carpet bottom but again not sure. If you have enough original pattern on your old seats any good shop can repop them. They need measurements for pleats etc.
