1967 auto show pic

Holy smokes. Check out this pic of a '68 442 'vert from what appears to be from the '67 or '68 Chicago Auto Show. Based on the location of 442 emblem on the quarter panel, I'd say it was probably a '67 (or earlier) show.

And check out the material on those door panels!!! I think her dress matches!!!

And are the inside the exaust tips painted red??

Would love to see some more pics of this if anyone has them.

Man, I love the internet. Actually, it's the 1968 Mod Rod! From the Chicago Auto Show web page...

Manufacturers were courting the youth market in the late 1960s with muscle cars like the 350 horsepower Oldsmobile 4-4-2. During the 1968 show, Olds featured the "Mod Rod" factory custom 4-4-2 convertible. The Cutlass-based ragtop was painted in colors that blended from pearl white in front to yellow in the center and metallic orange at the rear. Female models dressed in outfits that matched the design and materials featured in the car's interior were on hand to describe the special car to an enthusiastic crowd. A small sign in the background promoted Olds' new Rocket 455 V-8, installed in its larger models.

Also the interior inserts appear to be different - they don't match the girl's dress anymore.

I do like the saffron dash pad, however.

It sure looks like an 8 track player under the dash in "TK-65" pic. I didn't think they offered that in '68.

Good eye Gene. Of course that wasn't offered in '68, nor was that paint, interior, etc. Just another custom touch for a factory Auto Show car.

Are you sure about the 68 and 69 not having the 8-track player option? I was under the impression it was available, and the correct faceplate for those years was a brushed metal finish. The attached pics are from cars claimed to be original. I've seen lots of them for sale and the 8 track seems to be an option even in 1968.

Of course, guys, you are right. I had a hitch in my gittiup. 68 was the first year for the 8-track. Option U57 included the rear speaker and required one of the 2 radio options.
