I was hoping some of the members here who know about the 1967 Oldsmobile 442 can take a look at this car on Bring A Trailer and comment about the good the bad and the ugly on this particular car. I may be interested in bidding on it. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...supreme-442-4/
I have asked the seller some questions and awaiting reply. Let me know what you think. Is this a factory built 442?
Thanks so much guys.
Hard to tell without an in-person look. My first question is always about the sheet metal. In addition to the usual rust spots, the 66-67 cars are notorious for rust in the panel behind the back window. It's so common that a repro panel is available. That's not something one can tell from photos. It's definitely a real 442, and it has the correct E-block 400. Who built the 200-4R and how well was it built? Has the shifter been modified for the OD trans? Lots of aftermarket parts on that car, and it appears to have been blown apart and reassembled. I've encountered too many of those types of cars where only about half of the original bolts get put back in, so that's another question that requires an in-person inspection. Of course it has the obnoxiously droning yet overly restrictive (no)Flowmasters. The Dakota Digital gauges are a matter of personal taste. I'm not a fan, but that's me. I'm betting the reserve is close to 10X the current $5K bid.
I'd also be concerned about this wipe of RTV on the front cover seal.
Good observations. I covered a lot of that in questions I have asked the seller and this car isn't so far from me I can't go see it in person before the auction bell chimes. I'm familiar with the rust propensity around the back window and the front windshield. I owned a 67 Supreme, plus I have a 67 Cutlass convertible I have pretty much completely disassembled and reassembled, so I know a little but the massive brain trust here is the best I've seen on any of the on line sites I have visited or where I am a member. I always try to read more than I post. I do think the reserve on this car may be more than I'm willing to pay and often the BAT bidders have much fatter wallets than I. Thanks for the help guys and I look forward to what other members here have to say.
Oh and I have a fairly complete 67 rally gauge pack I bought cheap back in the wild west days of ePay that would go where those Dakota gauges sit if I were to get this car. Remember when they had actual auctions for old parts people wanted?
Love the color combo with vinyl top etc. Nice car. Has some upgrades or non stock items may be a better way to say it. I am somewhat of a purist so prefer correct drive train etc but thats one hobbyist opinion. As previously said the car will sell at a much higher price than the beginning bid.. Do your homework, bid what your comfortable spending and see where it goes..Best of luck.
Pinstrip is wrong, vinyl top is weird, front vinyl trim is odd. Headlight buckets are supposed to be satin blast finish and black on the inside, not show chrome all around. Some 442 badge colors are off. CS trunk badge paint is off. Aftermarket rims, but who has original wheels these days? I wonder what the extra **** under the left dash is for. Wrong steering wheel, aftermarket kickpanels, wrong brake pedal. Aftermarket gauges. Repro radio and system. Wrong shifter ball, I think. Overly repainted dash plaque. Wrong lighter. Tire equipment incorrect storage and bolt down. Incorrect air cleaner, later disc brakes, wrong block color and valve cover color. Aftermarket AC compressor. Carb, intake, fans, radiator, exhaust. are replaced. Some rewiring has been done.
It appears to be a legitimate 442. Questions I'd ask privately are to see the head numbers and see if he has the protectoplate in the docs, then check the engine number. This is a mildly modified car that would take a few grand to set right. It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

If the 1967 442 was too high priced, this 79 442 was a little lower priced and sold on Bat today also.
Edit,I placed the link to the 79 442 and tested it in preview post and then come check it later and it no longer goes to the 79 442 so don't waste your time hitting it. It was a butless cutlass 442 sold for $12k
