1966 Toronado 425 V8 engine- AC Brackets and Compressor help

I am looking for AC brackets/compressor for this engine to run with the Vintage air kit. BTW, I have this engine in my 71 cutlass. Does anyone know where to find the brackets or compressor that runs on R134a or have any pics of their 425 with AC? I was also wondering if there are 2 brackets or just one big one?

This guy is selling one on ebay, not sure if this is the only one needed?? its the main pictured one. thanx in advance.

You don't want the '66 brackets. You want the '71 brackets.

What happened to the brackets that came with the car? Those are the ones you need.

Why would I want the 71 ac compressor brackets if my engine is out of a 66 Toronado? Car didn't come with ac brackets.

Because the layout of the components inside the engine compartment of a '66 Toronado may be slightly different from that of the components of a '71 Cutlass, and you'd like everything to be in the right place.
Sure, they're probably close (A/C compressor on the right, P/S pump on the left, etc.), but you'd hate to find that something is in almost the right place, and (possibly more importantly) the right brackets for a '71 Cutlass should be much easier to find, as they made a lot more '71 Cutlii than '66 Toronados.

Ah. Now that makes sense.
So you'd really like a set of A/C and alternator brackets from a '70-'71 Cutlass (I believe '68 to '69 put everything in the same positions, though the actual brackets are different, and that the A- and B-body brackets are the same through these years, but I am not going to scrutinize the Parts Manual right now. Besides, Joe knows, and he'll tell you ).

Also, for the sake of simplicity, and saving your sanity, it is often better to get ALL the brackets and pulleys off of the same car, so that you can be SURE that everything matches up.

It does look like the pump goes on the right lower side of the engine block. So what you guys are saying is, I should get either 68-69 or 70-71 cutlass brackets and they should fit my engine block or I would have to modify them? A 425 olds toronado engine...

First, ALL big block Olds motors from 1965-1976 are externally identical. Accessory bracket mounting points are the same on all the motors. The brackets are NOT the same from a Toro to a RWD car nor are they the same from 65-67 to 68-76. As noted, you need the 1968-76 brackets for a RWD car (full size and Cutlass are the same). These brackets have some variation from year-to-year on the A/C cars, but they interchange as a set. The water pump, brackets, and accessory pulleys MUST match as a set. The factory big block A/C brackets are only designed to accept the massive A6 compressor used in those years. If you want to run the pancake R4 compressor, you need the brackets from a 1980s 307. These need some small modifications to work on a big block. There might be aftermarket brackets to mount an aftermarket compressor like a Sanden, but I don't know who makes them.

In my opinion the ebay price is steep for just the AC brackets. I agree with the other guys that life will be much simpler to purchase all the brackets, pullys and compressor from one engine. There's several members here with these parts. If you would create a parts wanted thread and post your location (city/state/province) then the members who are closest to you likely will offer up the parts. John

I recall a thread on this site, mentioning Vintage Air was coming out with a complete kit for non A/C equipped Cutlass's. Might be a good place to start.

Thx for the responses. The 66 toronado 425 engine was not out of a RWD car? I thought there were FWD and RWD toronados in 66? Joe-I don't think I need the cutlass or fullsize bracket set I was just looking to it as a last resort plus I would need to mount a sanden so a be able to run R134.

Toronado was a front wheel drive car.

Hard to understand. You can't attach an A/C compressor without brackets, and you don't have any brackets, so why are they a "last resort?"

You can run 134 with either an A-6 or a Sanden, but you will need modern adapter brackets to attach a Sanden.
