1966 442 Console Installation
1966 442 Console Installation
Good morning everyone!! I have a 1966 442 and I am trying to install a recently purchased complete 4-speed console (not previously installed). I also have the 3 metal mounting brackets as well. Does anyone know the best/easiest way on how to properly mount the console? I have not taken out the carpet but I have heard that there are factory indentations where the 3 clips are to be mounted. I would appreciate any assistance!!
Thanks!!

My floor had been replaced so I didn't have the indents. I attached the brackets to the console and, without the carpet in place, I centered the console over the shifter, ran through all the gears to make sure it didn't hit the console. Then I roughly marked the edges of the console and removed it, noting about where the bracket fell. Then I spread Playdoh over the approximate locations where the brackets fell, loosely re-centered the console, checked the gears again and pressed it down into the Playdoh to mark the locations of the screw holes and center punched them. Then removed the brackets from the console & installed them, installed the carpet, cut the carpet around the brackets, and installed the console. Everything fit perfect.
First I would see if you can see the indents from under the car and drill a pilot hole through them.
