1965 dynamic , N93 wheels
Hello , I am a new member with a 1965 Dynamic 88 Convertible. The car was my dads pride and joy. Sadly, he passed away this past september and I have inherited the car. I always liked the N93 aluminum wheel covers and would like to purchase a set for the car. Will the wheelcovers fit on my existing 14 inch wheels? I have heard a special wheel might be needed.. Also , were these covers an original option on 65 dynamic? Thanks for any help, Tom

The N93 bolt-on caps do not work with the regular wheels, and the wheels are a lot harder to find than the caps. These were available for all full-size 65 Olds except Jetstar 88 and Ninety Eight- the spinners wouldn't clear the 98's skirts, and the J88 used the 4.75x5 bolt pattern.
If you want the look of N93 without the hassle of finding the special wheels, consider a set of 70s Super Stock IV Polycasts. They are very similar in appearance (8-vent styling) and are 5x5 15", which might make finding tires a little easier.

Yes - I sold a pair of those wheels and covers a few years back from a friend's of mine 64 Starfire... They were a spare set that he had snow tires mounted on... IIRC the wheels were 8 hole pattern, three of the holes were used to bolt on the cover & the other 5 were to mount the wheel to the vehicle... If you can find the covers, you might be able to drill/machine the other three hole necessary for the cover to be bolted onto a standard wheel...

Won't work. The N93 are too deep for the standard wheel and will stick out close to an inch past the wheel. Don't ask me how I know this...
There are two center caps for 1964- one with spinner for Jetstar I and Starfire, and one with a deep "dish" and no spinner for Super 88 and Ninety Eight. Both these used the earlier "flat" Rocket emblem. All my lit shows not available for 1964 Jetstar and Dynamic 88s.
All 1965 centers had spinners and used the new for 65 (mid 64 actually) vertical Rocket.
Gorgeous wheel treatment, but almost not worth the effort 50 years later.

Thanks for the info. Do they have an 8 hole pattern? I thought the other 3 studs were part of the wheel. I keep hoping to find a set of these to go with a nice set of hub caps I lucked into.
Thanks,

These are the wheels that came with my 65 98, along with 4 covers,(one with broken tabs, 2 with welded tabs), and 4 spinners. I question if there was trouble with the tabs breaking from use or bad installation. I found no details on mounting the covers as to torque. I also am concerned with skirt clearance of the spinners. I have yet to determine what I am going to use, as well if I am going to go to 15 inch wheels.
That said, I like the look of the covers, but don't know how practical using them is.

The aluminum caps usually got damaged when tire shops ignorant of how they attached tried to pry them off. It was usually a chunk out of the edge but suppose it's possible to break a bolt tab from excess prying.
I would think standard aluminum torque figures would be sufficient. I can't see needing any more than 10-15 ft-lbs to hold these caps on. You want the bolts more than finger tight but not torqued enough to damage the bolt tab.
Look at Patrick's picture and you'll see the wheel hub spider is almost like a reversed wheel.
I don't think I'd try using these and spinner caps with skirts. My 64 Starfires look their best with 64 wire caps, and I have a set of Foxcraft stainless skirts for them, but that spinner is less than 1/2" away from the skirt lip installed. I see no reason to tear up either my nice spinners or my expensive skirts because the axle or body shifted a little on a turn.

It will be a while before I figure out what I am going to do. I am not gonna let them out of my sight until I have other wheels in hand. I doubt I will use the covers and spinners, and have a set of 14 inch wire spoke covers I like the looks of if I stay with 14s.
When the time comes if I decide they go, I will let you know, but it will be awhile before it hits the road.
