1965 442 lost
1965 442 lost
I had a 1965 442 also. I got drafted into the Army and left it at my moms house when I went overseas. That way I would have a car when I got home. If I didn't make it then it wouldn't matter. I owed some money on the car so the credit union where I was working at the time convinced my mom that because I wasn't paying on it they were going to take it back. I loved that car. When I read the 2 posts about finding their old cars it gave me a little hope. I still have the vin numbers but don't know where to look or who to ask. If you have that investigators number or email address I can contact him. Thank you very much. The vin for my 65 442 was 338375Z109842. If anyone knows of this car please let me know right away. It means allot to me. Even now. JIM

oldcutlass, At that time federal law stated that if you were drafted into the nations armed services your payments would be deferred until you returned or were KIA. If you wanted to you could just pay on the interest. I only received $78.00 dollars a month back then. Take care. JIM[/FONT]
Or if you were comfortable with it, post the vin or a portion of it here. People could look at their car to see if someone by chance has it.
My 1970 442 had four owners before me. The first only had it six months, then he sold it before going overseas.

1965 442
Many years have passed since I posted my first inquiry about my 1965 442. I am still looking for it. Hope to find it before I pass. The VIN # is 338375Z109842. If anyone knows anything please let me know. Thank you JIM
If you haven't gotten anywhere by just posting the VIN on this site and googling it, and it's been nearly 10 years, it's time for more drastic measures if you want to find this car before you die. As has been suggested above, it's time to hire a private investigator. If you're not willing to do this, it's time to stop complaining about not being able to find the car and get on with your life.
Keep in mind a few things, even if you do one day find it.
Whoever owns it might not want to sell it.
While the investigator may find out who owns it and where it is, it doesn't mean even he can use this information to approach the owner with privacy laws being what they are. I know I would find it creepy if, out of the blue, someone knocked on my door and said "I'm a private investigator, and I found you because you own a car that was once owned by my client, and he wanted to know if it still existed and where it was." My response would be "none of your (or his) damn business---now get off my property!

Over 165K people follow the page. For a nominal monthly fee you can post your car info. The fact that you have the VIN is very helpful
Another thing you could do on your own is check each state's DMV website and search for the vehicle using the VIN. I don't know that every state has this feature, but Ohio does.

I put your car's VIN into the search box, and it came up empty. So you at least know that, if the car still exists, it's not titled in Ohio. Even if it was titled there, with privacy laws being what they are, all the information you receive would be just the county that issued the title, the date it was most recently titled, and the mileage on the car at the time the title was issued. That's it. No owner information or address or anything like that. But it would be a start and information you could give to the investigator. I don't know that any other state has this feature, but probably some do. You'd have to check them one by one.
Here's another site of potential interest, if you haven't already seen it. It explains in detail the privacy laws affecting vehicle ownership information.

I realize that this car has tremendous sentimental value to you, but even if the car survives, it may not be as you remember it. More to the point, you've spent six years of your life already. None of us are getting any younger. Find a nice, rust-free 1965 from the desert and make it your own. You can build it exactly as your old one was, or you can build it the way you would have wanted it if you had the money then.
It might help if you posted what the car looked like..color, post or hardtop, manual or auto? And where it was last registered on the road
I had a 65 442 years ago that came from the U.S. but I have no idea what the vin number was. it was yellow with a black vinyl top and a 4 speed.
my friend has a rotted parts car now that also came from the south..red hard top automatic.
funding it by the vin would be pretty hard
