1964 442 original water pump material
I have a 1964 442. The water pump on the car is starting to leak. The housing for this pump is aluminum. I have an old water pump core for a 1964 442 that is cast Iron. Was the original water pump housing cast Iron or aluminum for the 1964 442's?

Yes I am interested in buying a rebuilt pump. I do not know if the original pumps were cast Iron or aluminum. I have both that are good only for cores Does your Cast iron pump have a casting number? If so what is it? I've read that the casting number should be 382188. My old cast iron pump for a 1964 330 has the casting number: "30597". My aluminum pump has no casting number.

There are places to have yours rebuilt, if you want to stay original...it is an option. If you go with another one make sure the shaft lengths are the same..Don't know if that makes a difference on a 64 330, but later year A-Body cars with options it certainly did.

I have a cast iron water pump for a 1964 330. It is unique because it fit only the 1964 year. The only thing that concerns me is the casting number. It has a funny casting number of 30597. Does anyone know if this is or may be the original casting. It has minimal pitting and would be easy to rebuild.

Aftermarket manufacturers often supplied cast iron pumps to replace the sometimes troublesome aluminum pumps of the time .
If you can get it re-built that would be a good pump to use .

Charlie, thanks, your right it does makes since that with a 5 digit number the pump is probably an old aftermarket pump . The pump also has a symbol cast into it. This may be the pump manufacture's symbol. I will try to get a photo of the symbol tomorrow and post it. Maybe someone will recognize it. Thanks
