1958 Olds 98 script on deck lid

Just got this car, after it sitting in Detroit garage since 1971. It is the 1958 Olds 98 four-door Holiday hardtop. In the middle of the trunk lid facing the rear, it has "Ninety Eight" in script along with an oval with a spear through it. From other 58 98s I see online, I don't see that script. Why does mine have it and others don't? Thanks Tim

trunk lid script on 1958 Olds 98

Yes, looks the same as on trunk lid of 1957 Olds 98; same style, same location but different model years, and other 1958 Olds 98s I see don't have it. Thanks for responding. Tim

The oval is the planet Saturn and the spear is the rings of Saturn. Makes me wonder what GM was thinking of when they built the Saturn.

Interesting. Have never heard this before. Is there a source or reference on this that one could consult?

The planet w/ring emblem has been around since at least 1953, hasn't it?

I can't pinpoint it, but I thought I read it in Fusicks catalogue or some other Oldsmobile literature. If I find it I will call you in the middle of the night with the results! By the way, that white Olds in the pic you provided is not a Ninety Eight...it does not have the four backup lights in the bumper and red vertical lenses.

The thought crossed my mind: Your car was not manufactured in Canada by chance? I do not know if that might account for the difference? No reason to suspect they did things differently, but one never knows?

I don't think Olds built Ninety-Eights in Canada.

You may well be right on that proposition. I was just offering a "wild guess."

It is a one family owned car with 40,000 miles. i found it right here in Oklahoma City. I bought it from the original owners Grandson. It sat in his backyard for about 20 years. She has her own Facebook page too - "Blanche The 1958 Oldsmobile lol.
