1950 vintage olds racecar

Came across this car at the Mooneye's Irwindale meet today, very interesting 2X2bbl manifold. The owner said the 1950 was a one year only carb. I've never seen one before, made by Rochester. I included a picture he had of a single 2bbl engine he had. Awesome vintage Olds power.

Back in the day I believe I had one of those Intakes and 2x2 carb set ups. If I remember correctly the intake was aluminum. For sure had those carbs on it because I tried them on my 53 Hudson and they ran poorly or not at all.I think they ended up on the aluminum scrap pile with all the other good stuff I threw away in my youth..... What a cool Olds ! I wonder what type of racing it was intended for. I doubt that 2x2 would pass inspection for stock car racing. It all looks very authentic, not like a lot of the clone type race cars you see. Those Rochester carbs were also used on 49's.

The story I got was the intake maker (forget his name) impressed GM engineers with his work. They studied his intake for future development of multiple carb engines. I know we've come a long way, but that was state of the art back then.
