17th Annual All Olds Show - Berlin, CT 9/22/13

Hey gang,

I wanted to see how many were planning on attending this year's New England Olds Club All Oldsmobile show in Berlin, CT on September 22nd (rain date 9/29).

I'm registered for both of my Ninety Eight's again (assuming I have a driver for the red one . I still have lots to do on the black car but she's coming along nicely and I have every intention of her making the show in pride again.

Here's the show flyer: http://www.neolds.com/neoc2013.pdf

If that doesn't work, go to the home page and follow the link from there: http://www.neolds.com/

Just over a month to go until this year's show. Hope to see lots of beautiful Oldsmobiles and sunshine!

Ha, I figured it was implied that you were coming Glen but glad to have confirmation! I think you're going to flip when you see the lineup of full-size Olds this year. I'm expecting SEVEN '75/'76 Ninety Eights! If all goes according to plan, we'll have the same lineup as last year plus 2 more! Yet another coupe and one sedan. I'm hoping to have 5 in the caravan arriving together this time. Really looking forward to it!

I'm planning on bringing both of my Ninety Eight's again. Still a bit of work to do but getting there and working non-stop to make sure it happens. See you there!

I'll be there w/ one of the cars, maybe both if I have a second driver (Alessandrini's cars are all down & he might need transportation!)

Glen's 68 is one of my favorite cars to see @ that show, love the 69 too.

Was there once or twice when it was in Meridan, now farther away. Was a very nice show. Would like to trailer the 67 but wow 3.5 hour drive from Trenton NJ... I doubt I could do it.

Oldsmaniac, a reply just for you
The show is only 15-20 minutes away from the old Meriden location and easier to get to. Trailer parking will be provided behind the Hawthorne Inn right next door to the Days Inn. AND, the Days Inn is offering a $60 flat rate for anyone attending the show. Something to think about. Hope to see you there!

I will consider making the show. Of course weather is everything. My dread is that horrible G-W bridge!! I need to find someone to tag along as well to help with loading and unloading.

Yes it is an option but just a little slower and a little less direct. I am hoping, if i make it, to cross the G-W before 7AM, and being a Sunday it should be smooth... The route home will be the tappan zee which can also be a crap shoot.

Hmmm, possible showers for Sunday. Where will postponement be announced for a rain date?

This has been on the top of my mind for the past few days while seeing the forecast. The weather this week has been perfect for a car show, every day up until Sunday that is!!

I have been working on my car like a madman, later and later each night. I really hope we get a good day so that I can finally enjoy taking her for a nice long ride and show the fruits of my labor.

I'm going to email the club president to see what they're thinking and I'll let you guys know.

Yeah this is what happened to me last year for with the 67 and the DVOC Fall show....it was a washout. As of now showers are iffy which makes for a tough call but it would be enough to keep me from making the roadtrip and for a possible low turnout...

That's just it, even the threat of rain is enough to make for a low turnout. Honestly, I don't know that I want to take my car out if it could rain. It's one thing if we get a shower during the show because you can just dry your car off and drive home when the roads have dried up, but to drive in the rain with a heavily detailed car would really suck and it's not something I plan on doing.

I emailed Glen about this so I'm sure he'll get back to me soon.

Glen (NEOC President) replied to my email:

" We hope to make a decision by 6pm on Saturday and put it on our website www.neolds.com. If it looks bad, we will probably put the word out sooner. Keep your fingers crossed. " Glen

Still working on the car every night and finally got her out for a bit of a longer test run last night, drove up and down the highway for a good 45 minutes. Still a few bugs to work out and small items to get to so honestly the extra time a rain date would give me wouldn't be the worst thing in the world

Hi everyone,
The New England Oldsmobile Club has moved the show to next weekend (Sunday, Sept 29th) due to the threat of rain. We hope to see all of you there for the largest all Olds show on the east coast!

Thanks!
- Frank Tupka,
Vice President, New England Olds

And of course, the weather next week will be perfect, so hope to see you all there LOTS of calls from distant states which is very encouraging for a good turn out. The rain date is rain or shine because of contractual obligations. So, still more time to clean and prep those Oldsmobiles

Great hoping for better weather next week.. I had written off the show due to the forecast and the distance I would have to go.

I guess the call had to made to cancel it, but i dont like the fact that NOAA is now calling for only a slight chance of showers

It is a tough decision, the threat of rain kills it for the long distance attendees, next week could be a total washout and could be worse weather wise. Tough call.

The weather throughout this week AND next weekend looks just about perfect! I hope for a great turnout of beautiful Oldsmobiles.

I also hope the extra week is helping others get just a few more finishing touches done before the show. It's certainly helping me

So how was the weather yesterday in CT? Were the weathermen right or did they blow the forecast? Here in NJ it was bright and sunny when the sun came up but the ground was still wet...

Sounds like we had the same weather. It turned into an absolutley beautiful day in Danbury (about an hour from Berlin). The roads were all pretty wet in the morning so I think delaying the show was the right call. I know for a fact that plenty of people would not have come otherwise.

We hope it was the right call. As many as 12-15 cars showed up anyway and we feel really bad about that. Apparently not everyone got the mass media message and our web site may not have updated properly. We are still expecting a good showing on the 29th though

Joe its worth the extra 10 minutes of drive time to take the tappan zee. I've gone the GWB on a Sunday morning before and got burned. Like you said, always a crap shoot.

Im hoping to make the 3+ hour drive up in my 69 wagon from South Jersey.

Either way could be trouble. I am going to go GW and hope for the best! Thats if Uhaul actually reserves my trailer this time!

well you better strap your car down good because when you go thru the tunnels around jerome ave you may disappear in one of the potholes

not to mention the GWB is at least 12 bucks into the city
