1/4 Mile and 0-60 Peformance Data 1966

Does anyone have approximate performance data for a 1966 F85 coupe. Here are the stats for the stock 1966 F85

330 Low Comp 9:1 2 BARREL

2 Speed Jetaway with 3.08 rear

Thanks I was not able to find any literature on the stats only 442.

Oldzy, thanks for the info. I had assumed around 85mph but around high 16's. Good to know this car could break into the 14's. I am assuming with a edelbrock intake, 4 barrel, mild cam and dual exhaust it could prob get into low 14's maybe.

Any guesstimates on the trap speed. Does 83-87 sound realistic

Mine did a 15.07 @ (88ish mph don't remember the trap speed) with the tranny still in 2nd gear screaming at 6k. (slowed way down if i shifted into 3rd right before the lights)

Motor isn't quite stock anymore, but Its definitely not "built" either.

330, Low comp (87 octane gas), Holley 650dp, HD3spd manual & 3.23 gears, stock exh manifolds, crossover blocked, tiny dual exhaust pipes.

That was the only time i have raced it with this motor. Once the 455 is done i'll probably start racing again. Just too depressing running that slow right now, I'd rather watch my friends go fast for the time being.

Yea mine is the all original green one (see my post 66 holiday coupe) with the 2 speed with 2 barrel and single exhaust. I would love to try one or two passes as this is primarily just my cruiser. I estimate 83-87 mph at about 15.6-15.8 I hope.

I think that is a little optimistic, but how can *any* of this be discussed with no mention of what rear gears are involved?

this is being discussed because mention of the rear gears was stated in the first post.

Okay, now with my reading glasses on!
Yes, 3.08s and a 2-bbl (even presuming no traction problems) would make it very hard to get into the 15s.

thanks wmachine. Yea this baby will prob pull 85 mph at around 16.2-16.5. Getting into the 15's I dont think would be possible unless it had a 4 barrel and dual exhaust to say the least. Also a nice set of 255's would be alot better than those pizza cutting 205's.

RAMBOW, Those are pretty nice number for the 250 horse version of the 330 LC. The 442 in 64 barely broke into the 14's and to think that the bigger car with LC 330 did it in 15.07 is very good. When you get that 455 into the low 12's I want a ride.

honestly I cannot say what setup my motor currently has.
It -WAS- a high compression 310hp motor originally, but the previous owners father rebuild the engine around 1988 as a college graduation present for him and swapped out the pistons so he could run regular instead of premium. The cam that is in it now has almost no bottom end until you reach 3500 rpm. Right at 3500 it comes alive and pulls hard, but for a motor that normally doesn't spin past 5k, thats a pretty tiny powerband.

anyway... Yeah I will be aiming to get mid 12's with the 455, but I may be limited to what I can do with the pistons I'm going with.

Seems like its difficult to get a 455 to make an honest 450-500hp at the crank w/o spending a ton of money on it or making it unstreetable. At least thats the impression i get from reading stuff.

I'll give it my best shot anyway.

My first car was a '66 Cutlass, 330 2bbl, 2spd auto...it couldn't get out of it's own way! Now, it was well worn when I got it (1975), but I don't think it would get down the 1/4 any faster than high 16's.

RAMBOW You are completely right about the Olds 455 power potential on a normal guys salary. Most of us or hobbyist and passionate about our cars, but dont have a million plus in our bank to buy all the goodies. Also most of us are hands on and cant afford nor want to pay a pro engine builder to build an engine that we honestly built when we were 16. We all know how simple they are. I truly agree with you on the 455. It seems that a stock motor with the typical upgrades (just estimates dont quote me) including Performer RPM intake/ or Torker II, 750-850 carb, 500+ lift and 230+ dur cam, roller rockers, heavy ported heads/ or edelbrock heads, headers and a good 2.5" exhaust can easily make the 400-450 hp mark at a very reasonable cost. Then to get to the 500 hp mark it seems you need another $1500-$2500 at least. It may have to do with the limitations of the very long stroke, thats my best bet. The torque is easy to get to 500-550 ft pounds even 600 with a low band cam, but then you lose all the top end and again hover around 330-375 hp. It is an endless game of math and trial and error that Einstein may never have predicted. Good luck.
