I don't think I've seen a carb stamped like this one is. Anybody?

Yes I was,I wasn't an expert on retamps then and the same applies now. The question I have is the 0 before the 7040253.. I've seen the 69 models built by Carter that have the 29253 etc. Do you have a problem with me?

Mike, I'm no carb stamp expert either, but sure have witnessed many wonky looking carb stamps since taking notice of them. I believe in post #32 of the link I posted, RocketDevo addresses the leading zero question you posed. In addition, he takes a position about the dimples that are present on your stamped carb and those shown in the link. Notice also that the trailing 3 style font in your example is totally inconsistent with the style 3 font used on the fake carb in the link, that and the trailing 3 in your picture projects a halo effect to me. For what it is worth, all the 7040253 carbs I have paid any attention to carry the trailing 3 style font as noted on the fake carb in the link.

From the link I referenced, that conversation casts a dim light on the possibility for the carb you posted being authentic. However, both RocketDevo and 72xW30 are still active on this forum so it's possible you could contact them for their input, as both are experienced individuals.

Hope this helps, Happy Motoring!

Here is another old carb with a zero as the lead number..i searched the net and couldn’t find anything about a zero..this old carb looks originally tho..experts please weigh in.. this was advertised as a 1969 carb, date code validates that. Owner said it was in his shop over 30 years so someone must know something about the zero factor.
