on a 72 Cutlass Supreme? Neither work. I've gone through the CSM and Assembly manual and all it shows is how they go together. Not what/where to start taking the dash apart to get to either one. It's impossible to reach up from underneath to get to either.

 

The CSM has an electrical diagram. That is where I would start.

Ya, the Fig12AA-9 shows how it goes together if I had the entire front panel sitting in my lap. There is no easy way to reach and pull retainer off. All I can think of remove entire instrument cluster so I can get my hand back there.

 

If you have A/C then you need to remove the ductwork. Then unplug the radio connections and remove nut from plastic strap on rear of radio, and then pull off radio *****, then using 5/8 deep socket (by hand usually) remove nuts on radio shafts and then catch radio as it falls towards floor... the cigar lighter can now be accessed through the radio cavity.
