Hey Guys,

Looking to replace my ignition coil and it's a Delco-Remy 292 B-R. I can't find any other part numbers or model numbers on it and I'm not sure what would be a correct replacement. There's tons that show up on several parts pages that would work with my year/make/model but I can't be certain. On the bracket for my stock model, there's an external ballast connected to the positive terminal in addition to the distributor wires. I've seen a couple MSD ignition coils on Summitracing.com's page that seem to be a good fit. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of a swap and what you used? This is one of the parts where if it's not truly a compatible replacement, I'm gonna open up other issues and I'm looking to avoid that.

 

Any coil from any American V8 (and maybe straight-6) from the early '60s through the '70s with points ignition and a balast resistor should work fine.

You could collect a spackle bucket full of them in less than an hour at any junkyard.

If you want one that is really the same, then stick to GM cars.

If you want a new one, then the Standard UC-12, or the NAPA ECH IC-12, MPE IC-12SB, or ECH IC-676 would all be fine.

For reference purposes, NAPA says the UC-12 will fit 2663 different cars, and Standard says the UC-12 will fit all of these:
