Voltage Regulator Condenser

While replacing the voltage regulator the wire came out of the condenser attached to it. What is the purpose of this particular condenser and do I need it?

I think it is only there to reduce radio noise.

It's a radio interference suppressor.

It reduces static from the relays in the regulator clicking.

The car will run fine without it, but if you hear clicking or buzzing through your radio, you'll know why.

Not needed if you use a new solid state VR in place of the stock mechanical one.
