1971 442 Fuel Gauge - Wire goes where?

The fuel gauge on my new to me 1971 Olds is not working. The needle on the gauge isn't even pointing close to the right direction so I purchased a rebuilt gauge and went to install it today. As I went to put it back in the dash I noticed a loose wire (red in the photo). Maybe this has been the problem all along? The plug going into the back of the gauge has two open ports. Can anyone tell me which one, if either, this red wire is supposed to go to? Of course, if the red wire is for something else, please let me know. I'm new to Olds. The order form for my car says it came with the U21 Rally gauges but they are not in the car now if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for any help!

You've got a number of terminals in that connector that are pushed out.

There is a sketch in this thread: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ly-pac-154961/

Some don't seem to be in the correct place.

It’s actually pink. That’s the ignition feed to that gauge cluster.

I bet the charge, brake tenp or oil lights didn’t work either. Or if they did, the wire came out of the harness as you removed the gauge.

Reform the locking tab, slide it into the proper cavity in the connector body.

Thank you everyone! This helps me get a good start on getting this fuel gauge, and idiot lights, working. Again, many thanks for giving me a starting point.
