I just purchased a 1970 Cutlass and have a small engine fire that cooked my wiper motor and pump , I need to replace both.
I would prefer a new one or a good replacement. I’ve looked at a few on eBay but I’m somewhat confused.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
There are two different systems: Non-depressed park (Cutlass/F-85) and depressed park (everything else). The Cutlass wipers just stop at the bottom of their cycle. Wipers in others stop, then move down behind/below the hood when shut off.
From the Fisher Body Manual, "The non-depressed park system uses a rectangular shaped motor with wiper blades that are visible above the hood line when in the park position. The depressed park system incorporates a round motor and wiper blades that park below the hood line."
You have the round-motored depressed park system on your car.
I would pull the pump and inspect the motor from here it looks like you may get away with just replacing the pump.
I am in the process of swapping my pump over to an electric version.
The photos are from Fusick's site. Unfortunately, it says the one you need is currently out of stock. You could call them to see if they'll have any soon, or look elsewhere. Other reproduction catalogs seem to sell motors and pumps separately but most show them in stock. Rock Auto doesn't list them, but O'Reilly's does. There seem to be plenty on EBay also, and now you know which style you need.
Get a hold of Scott Winn. Goes by oldspackrat here. He should have serviceable used motors and may have harness also. If you need his cell number, let me know?
