1971 console wiring

I did a column to console conversion on a 1971 cutlass supreme. the console lighting is acting weird to me as the dash map light is controlling the lighting. In one position of the map light it is completely off and the other, the console lighting comes on, but also stays on, even with the doors closed and the engine off. I thought I plugged the extension harness in correctly into the courtesy lamp feed, but this can not be correct.

Any thoughts ?

thanks

Check and see if the plunger switch under the console lid is out of adjustment, leaving the light on, even after the lid is fully closed and power is off. I had that same problem and wondered why my battery kept dying after the car sat only for a couple of days. a small adjustment upward towards the lid did the trick. good luck
