Green mystery wire

I'm down to 3 strange wires i have to place before i start the cra. One (green) comes out of the firewall over by the distributor I thought it went to the distrib. but when i touch it to the terminal the temp. gauge skyrockets s i assume it has something to do with that. There is also an orange and white wire that don't seem to go to anything... I thought they might be sigs. but the don't connect to anything under the dash either.

The other problem i'm haveing is my radio is popping all the fuses. It works fine but after a while the fuse or the wire that the fuse hooks to begins to smoke cause it's drawin too many amps.... any thoughts?

Thanks
Robert

Closest I can come is a 1954 wiring diagram, but I doubt it changed that much in 55 since the cars are very similar and both are 12V negative ground electrical systems.

Your green wire goes to the temperature gage sending unit on the engine as you've guessed.

An orange wire AND a white wire, or an orange wire with white stripe? I expect those have to do with dome or courtesy lights with orange wire is 12v and white wire is the ground side.

However, that circuit also feeds the brake lights in the 54 book, and it shows orange to the hot side of the brake switch, white from brake switch to turn signal switch, then orange again from t/s switch to t/s flasher.

Is there a factory radio or aftermarket? Should only be about a 7.5 amp fuse for the radio circuit. I'd start looking for a cut wire or possibly an internal short in the radio. Factory radio power supply wire is a 16 gage green wire.

Hope this helps ya a little...
