What was the point of this? :)

I decided to repair and relocate the melted wires that were going to the starter today, the previous owner thought it was a dandy idea to route the positive battery cable slung over and resting on the headers and covered with a flexible cloth like heat shield. While I was re-routing the wires I found this gem. The heavier red wire went to the starter. The smaller brown wire was connected to the red wire in a twist and tape fashion in two spots. from the red wire... to the red wire.

Gotta love the mods people attempt on their cars. Where do the 2 wires run to?

To the starter. Only the red one goes there now. There's all kinds of wiring done wrong/cut up. The wiring diagram here is gonna come in handy!

That wire attached to the heavy red cable looks like the cloth covered resistor wire for the ignition.
Why it's there I can't answer. Reminds me of the nightmares I found in my car.

I don't know why those smaller wires should go to the starter.

It appears he's using them as 12v sources which makes no sense since you can take power from more convenient locations.
Trying to figure out why other people do what they do is a lesson in futility.
