Assuming your alternator is original, you should have an external regulator. Look at the two wire plug that goes into the alternator. If the two terminals are oriented like this: I I, it is an external regulator. If the two terminals are oriented like this: -- --, then it is an internal regulator.

Despite what the manual says, you do not have a generator. For some reason, GM referred to the Delcotron alternator as a generator, but it is not.

Assuming you have an exteranal regulator, it will be a black cube on the firewall, about 3" by 3" with four wires going into it. You can get exact replacement mechanical regulators or you can get newer electronic regulators that are direct replacements.

If you are trying to describe polarizing the generator, that is NOT required on this car. DO NOT do it. The car is a 1969 model. It does not have a generator.

So if i order a new delco voltage regulator 3x3inch box.
i need the one with external regulator.

it has 4 wires 2 going to the alternator on the firewal.
it's the original one.

cleaned it but don't trust it. it ratels and the rpm drops.

so i looked at fusik's place for a replacment and saw 3 different ones.
so i need the d663 one? and not the d680.

You can order them from any auto parts dealer. Fusik will be higher price, but if want the numbers to match than go with Fusik
