speaker problem...help

I put in the new front dash speaker from Electo-tech that is the proper ohm and has the factory hookups like the original one, but you can barely hear the thing. The original one was working fine until the cone cracked. This is on my 66 cutlass convert. Any ideas????

So strange... Is it grounded okay to the dash? Fader (if there is one) all the way to front? Does the cone even move up and down?

It is possible to do a quick test with an 8 ohm home system speaker just to help isolate the problem to speaker or radio. Attach when radio is off and use normal volume. It could be possible the new one is bad...

Do you have a tape player?

I have no tape player. Thank you for your info. I will get back under the dash this evening and check the ground. The fader is all the way to the front. The car only has this one speaker. The cone does move, but not too much. I'll let you know what I find or if I strike out again.

Most times I've had as good luck reconing original speakers as buying "new correct duplicate" replacements. Plus by doing that, you KNOW you have the original frame and mounting and it will fit right.
