Rear view mirror wire??

While tearing out my headliner I noticed a blue wire running to my rear view mirror, but it was cut off by the door. Any ideas as to what this is for? Thanks

There was a map light in some rear view mirrors. Sometimes those map lights went belly-up and people would replace the map light mirror with a standard rear view mirror. The wire was continuous from the mirror, ran across the top inside the trim on the driver side and down to where it plugs into the underdash wire harness. I'm thinking that's what might have happened with your car and they cut the wire off at the mirror and down below. For some reason, I seem to remember this wire being grey and not blue, but I might be mistaken.

Though every map light I have seen had a grey wire, of course that doesn't mean that the wire wasn't replaced as well thus the blue wire. I don't think any other wire was routed that way for any other accessory.

Other blue wires were for speakers but those went down the dash and under the carpet for the back speaker

Since it's the "wrong" color, it could also be something that a later owner added, such as power for a radar detector.
