Can head phones/ ear buds be adapted to a after market car radio and if so
how does one do this?

I have been spending a lot of time running from Northern California to Boise Idaho ((8 to 10 hours) in my Miata lately, speeds around 80-85 MPH through the desert mostly with the top up. Wind noise is rather extreme at that speed and the radio is useless with all that noise. I would like to add some head phone jacks some where on or around the radio if that is possible, has anyone done this?... Tedd

I will give a generic yes answer to your question. In the old days I installed a headphone jack inline with the radio speaker out wiring of a 1976 Ford Pinto. Plug in the headphones and the speakers were taken out of the circuit. So, there is no reason, electronically, why it cannot be done.

That said, it very well may be illegal to do so. Some states prohibit headphones as they impair if not outright prohibit one from hearing emergency sirens. Check your state laws on this!

 

It appears it is a Phase Linear PCD 6000. I've never heard of this brand but that's what came in the Miata when I got it.I'm trying to get one of my cameras to work. the batteries are dead on all of them as I type.

Dave it can't be as bad as wind noise and the volume turned up max with the top up. I'll take a chance on the police not catching me at 80 berried in a Miata.... Tedd
