Recently one window on my 71 Cutlass convertible stopped working, the other 3 work fine, so I am guessing its the motor.
Doing some searches I see a Power Window Relay listed, and the picture looks like the relay mounted on the firewall near
the brakes booster.
I had thought that relay was for the blower motor .
Anyone know if it also controls power windows ?
Also, I see a few different listings for a replacement motor, the window not working on my ride is the passenger side rear quarter, any suggestions
as to where one is readily available ?
The relay behind the booster is for the high speed blower on an A/C car. There is a circuit breaker in that area for the power windows, and power top. The power window relay is located behind the driver's front kick panel and powers the entire power window system when the key is on. You are correct, it will not stop a single motor from working. Before buying a motor, do a little troubleshooting to determine if the motor, wiring, or switch is bad. After checking to see that both switches do not run the motor, (drivers door master, and single rear window) the quickest way to check if the motor is bad will be to pull the back seat, pull the arm rest/ door panel, and unplug the connector to check for power while using the switches.
On some of my previous vehicles with power windows, I was able to remove the motor and replace the brushes to restore functionality. My local Ace hardware store has a variety of brushes on the shelf.

Your wording for this diagnostic could be improved. You have four window switches. Tell us which windows switch(es) is/are NOT working.
Does it work from the driver's side window switch?

Exactly, does it work from the driver's side switch or does it work from the driver's side switch and it ONLY does not work from the rear passenger side switch?
To the OP. Doubtful it's a relay if three other windows are operating and I wouldn't be too quick to order a motor until you check continuity/ohms/resistance of the wiring. That A&W root beer float the car hop dumped down the window in 1972 may have completely corroded the wiring by now and you only need to clean up your wiring &/or contacts to the motor.
Passenger side Rear quarter window does not operate either from the drivers door 4 position switch or from the switch at the window itself.
Thanks for all the replies. Next step is to check for power at the switch.

Complete wiring diagrams are contained in the 1971 Fisher Body Service Manual, Section 15 w/ appropriate diagnostic troubleshooting. I'm pretty sure these are correct for the two-door A Body, as well although it says four door. I don't see a two door (or I didn't look long enough). Should help you locate the correct colors and schematic. If I mysteriously find a two door diagram in the next several minutes I'll post it. HTH
OK - so I checked for voltage at the rear window switch and found 12 vdc, Guessing the next step is to take the back seat out and check the motor and replace it if needed.
Thanks to All who responded.

See post # 2. It may not have been clear, but when I said to unplug the connector, I meant the connector on the motor. Use a test light attached to a good ground and check for power on each wire on the motor plug. One should get power when you use the switch to go up, the other should get power when you use the switch to go down.
