This sounds like a psychology test. You know. The kind where the question is 'Why?" and you fill in all the stuff you want.

Opinions on.....life, sex, drugs, rock n' roll, cars, girls, I like the last one.....but I'm sure there's something else Don has in mind. Looks like he had a post and then deleted it at 7:03

Sorry guys... This dang ipad is horribal, has me screwing things up left and right!

My real question here was supposed to be if any of you have heard of "hot rod wires" electrical harnesses? Read some pretty good stuff about them, there gm coded which is a plus. Digging farther into the my cars electrical waste land got me thinking.. If my car is so gutted (as far as electrical gose) why would i get a factory wiring harness?! The only thing other then headlights tail lights horn ignition dash and radio thats electrical in my car is nothing lol thats it

Why get a factory repro when im not even going to use half of it?

Keep it simple and cheap with a 12 circuit aftermarket harness right?

Well, you can do it the way you desribe, and your right the electrical system is not really that complicated. Why can't you repair what you have?

Well, if you have lots of time, patience, and wiring / soldering skills, you can go with a universal harness.
You will need all of the car's original connectors to remove each terminal, clean, remove old wire, solder on new wire from harness, and reinstall into connector. Then you have to make sure to make the wires all the right length, and wrap them all with the non-sticky tape. I did this once for a buddy's 34 Ford and hated it.

Unless you are doing a custom, I would pay for the repro - too much time and frustration for me.
Keep in mind that you can buy whatever harness you need for under the hood - not all of them them. The dash harness is one big piece, except for the optin harnesses.

I have one of these harnesses that I bought about 20 years ago to put in a 57 Chevy. I still have the car and the harness and have never started on the car. It looks like it will be a retirement project in a few years. I bought it from the guy at a swap meet where he had a booth. Very nice guy and he has been making these for years. I think he is located in Garland, TX which is next door to me. I would not hesitate to use one.

The reason i rather just replace it is because i might as well, haha Most of the wiring is pretty nasty and since my cars pretty bare theres about a million dead wires all over the place.

starting over pulling everything out and putting everything new back in only makes sense New motor tranny and electrical sounds lovely
