'67 442 am/fm face size

I just got factory?? AM/FM radio for my '67. I notice the faceplate is somewhat taller than the AM that came out. It will fit is I cut the dash a bit (shiver!!!) but I was hoping someone with an AM/FM in theirs, or someone who has done this swap can advise me before I make any cuts! Looks like I would have to cut the dash about 1/2 inch on the top, and also cut the trim into a right and left side...

Sometimes the 2 posts are adjustable. Look at the nuts that attatch the volume and the tuner post to the radio. If you back out the nut you may be able to move it up or down and side to side, a bit.

Thanks, I will see if that is possible. I think the hole in the dash is just too small. I was hoping someone with an AM/FM had a pic of their dash so I could get an idea of what it looks like installed. I believe the radio to be correct, even though there is no tag on it. I have compared it to photos in the Delco repair manual and it looks correct. Also, in the manual, it does appear that the AM/FM has a taller face than the A/M.

You may have to do some minor trimming.

I'm not really up on the 66-67 Olds models, but I'm hard-pressed to believe that, if you have a '67 Olds AM-FM radio, that it doesn't fit the opening. I'd check out the radio to make sure it is for your '67 Olds.

I've interchanged radios on my '68 and '69 from AM to AM-FM and the fit is exactly the same - no alterations in the dash, nothing.

Before you cut, and especially if you want to preserve your original dash, take your time and look around to make sure what was advertised is what you really have.

yeah, I really don't want to cut. I wish the radio had a tag so I could be sure. There is precious little on the internet for this subject

Faceplate has a #7300509 cast into it. Anyone have a reference for that?

67 442 AM/FM radio

Take a look at the Radio Port.On the top there is a Rib.Take a Dremel Tool and cut just below that Rib.That is the height for all of the 67s.I have a few cores at my shop.If needed I can get you the dimension.
Dont cut up the radio Plate .They are extremely hard to find.I have a few 67 AM/FM Plates that I will trade for.Its a 2 piece Radio Face.

Did you look to see if the posts were adjustable?

Hey Ron,
Are you sayint that the black, ribbed faceplate on an A/M F/M is 2 pieces?

By port, you are talking about the plastic dash?

Posts may adjust a little ways, but the "escutcheon assy" as the radio service manual calls it, (I call it the chrome face with the A/M F/M slider bar on it) is just a bit too tall to go through the hole in the dash.

I see, those radios are not that expensive, older wrecking yards used to have piles of them. You may be able to find one that fits, or if its really close trim the dash.

This may help. I believe the AM/FM required the two piece face plate.

Just curious, Ron. Are you referring to the one piece AM plates that are hard to find?

I presume you are not talking about the '67 F85 AM-FM. It is rare by every measure. It is F85 only and '67 only.

Correct. Thanks for posting it. Anyone interested in a high res scan can get it on Wild About Cars.

To further clarify, The AM-FM plates (drivers side) have 2 versions. they only show the drivers side AM-FM plate in the "with AC" version. The "w/o AC" version is wider including the cover for the AC vent.

I have 2 67's with amfms. I'll take a look Monday PM and let you know the measurments, I think they are taller due to the slide bar.
