Non Rallye Pack to Rally Pack Conversion, are they telling me the truth?

I got a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

I recently bought original rallye pack gauges for the 70-72 cutlass from the member 442crzy.

I also bought this install/conversion kit from opgi:
https://www.opgi.com/gauges-accessor...le-ct2503.html

According to my research on this forum and opgi.com i thought this would be all that is needed to convert from a standard (idiot light) dash
to rallye pack gauges?

But now comes the story.
I had the car in the shop last week and while it was there i asked them to also perform the rallye pack installation/conversion.

They called one week later that the car is ready for pickup but they couldn't install the rallye pack because the connectors to the wiring harness
would not be the same (7 vs. 8 pins) and they would have to replace the complete wiring harness in order to do so and they took some pictures which
they wanted to show me where i could see the problem.

I already had the impression they did not really want to do the job when i brought my car in.
And now today when i picked the car up the pictures (showing the mismatched connectors) magically disappeared from their phone...

Which brings me to the question:
Are they telling me the truth, and if so, what exactly do i need to do and buy (in addition to the parts that i already have) to perform the conversion?
Or are they simply lying to me and didn't do anything?

Also is there a good tutorial or youtube video on how to remove the gauges?
Probably have to do the conversion myself...

It’s the same connector for both applications but the wiring is different. You just need to pull the wires out of the connector and rearrange them. You also need to disconnect the green wire from the ignition switch to prevent the gauges from pegging every time you turn the key. Check post #14 in the link Bob posted above.

Thanks very much!
One should think a shop specialised in classic american car repairs & restorations would be able to figure that out... Obviously not the case.

But im very happy i do NOT need another wiring harness.

Is there a good guide (maybe even video) on how to remove the gauges?

On 70-72 they come out through the front. Four screws removes the wood grain gauge bezel, then couple of screws for each gauge pod.

Today i checked these both books:
https://www.opgi.com/books/service-m...e-ctasm08.html
https://www.opgi.com/books/service-m...c-c241456.html

Because i was looking for this graphic:

But i was not able to find it.
Does anybody know where this graphic is from? It's not really important since i have it but i really thought it would be in the chassis service manual? Did i miss it?

That graphic was made up many, many years ago. I remember seeing it in the1980s when I was looking to convert the idiot lights in my sister's (now my) '68 4-4-2 to rallye pac. There was an article, I believe written in Journey With Olds by Bob Cline, that discussed this issue and I think that's where the graphic came from. As I understand, the instructions are the same for 68-72.
