New wiring kit?

What is the best way to do a new wiring kit? Lay it beside the old one and copy the length and connectors? That would seem easier than routing the wires and then doing the ends. Thanks

pretty much the whole car(69 442). Got an American Auto Wire classic update kit. I did notice after I posted this post that most of the end connectors are already on the dash kit. Thanks

I've done it both ways. Routing the wires in some cases first helps if you want/need to make extra length for accessibility purposes.
