With the transmission in park or neutral, you should see voltage on both sides of the switch when you turn the key to start with the wires connected. Or you can remove the 2 purple wires and you should see continuity with an ohm meter.

Put the shifter in LOW and turn the ign key to the start position. Move the shifter slowly through the gear selections until the starter spins. If the shifter is in the neutral position when the starter engages, you know that part of it works. Continue moving the shifter towards PARK. If the starter engages when the shifter reaches PARK then you know the NSS is good. If the starter engages in any other position, it is bad.

The Safety Switch only operates with the shifter though. If the linkage to the trans is not adjusted correctly, the engine may still start while the trans is in gear but the shifter is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position.

If the starter does not engage with the above testing, you will need to use a volt meter to check for power after the switch. If you have power going through the switch and the starter does not engage, you most likely have a bad starter.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem!
