Why would you need two insulated wires to run a light on a car?
The car's body and frame serve as ground path for most electrical needs...

No, the light green wire goes to the trunk harness where it splits to feed each of the backup lights.

I just took the backup lights out of my car 2 days ago. They are both have light green wires and are fed by the trunk harness with a light green wire. There are 2 dark green wires that feed the tail lights/brake lights. Suggest you check the other lead to see if it relates to one of those. If they are side by side on your harness, that would be a logical next step.

If you need a pic of the trunk connection LMK and I'll take one for you.

So sorry for the delay. I had some other things on the go, but I did get those pics of the connections for you.

Left side back up light connector (tan is fuel gage wire)

Right hand back up light connector (the silver is actually the tag light connector sprayed with body color)

The left side tail light connector has 2 brown and 1 yellow wire.
The right side tail light connector has 2 brown and 1 dark green connector.

Ummmm... The neutral safety switch is a switch.
It opens and closes a connection between two terminals.
ONE of those terminals goes to the backup lights.
The OTHER terminal must, perforce, go to the power source that makes the backup lights glow.

One wire brings electrons INTO the switch, the other wire brings them OUT of the switch.

Sorry, one beer is the wrong number for me, I guess.
