Mystery Plug

I noticed tonight that there was is electrical plug hanging down below the car. I can't see where it is supposed to go - could be from the engine compartment. Comes out of the fire wall and was hanging about midway between the drivers and passenger side. I can't see where it is supposed to go. Can you can identify it?

I think that's the lead for your brake switch. Have a look at pages 130 and 134 in the attached link: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe...al_Sect_12.pdf

Transmission?
TH400, LH side. Kickdown, and if the car in the photo is the subject, probably Trans Controlled Spark Advance- that 3-vacuum line & 2-electrical thing on the front of the engine:

Ck driver's side of trans, see if a mating connector has no wire.

That looks like the plug for the Kickdown and Switch Pitch. In your case it's just the kickdown. The electric connections coming out of your trans probably has only one connector because of the single wire coming from the plug.

Looks like TH400 kick down to me too. Manually press the kick down switch and see if you get 12v there.

I have a 350 engine and a TH350 tranny. It has a kickdown cable, so no switch. Also I was told to check the brake proportion valve, but there doesn't seem to be any electrical connection on it. I checked the transmission and everything is connected there as well. Everything on the car seems to work, so maybe something was switched out a t sometime and it is no longer functional. Thanks to everyone who had some input. I appreciate it. I just taped it up along the firewall for now.

If the proportioner valve is original, it has an electrical connector on it somewhere.
This picture is looking in from the engine bay, wire plug is by yellow arrow.

Rob, I saw a graphic picture of the original on the link that Allan R. sent to me. Mine looks different. No electrical connection on it. It must ahve been replaced at some point.

If it's been replaced and you don't have that sender? I'd suggest you change it out for a proper one. The sender is designed to send an impulse to the dash idiot light when there's a failure of the circuit.

Rob,

Thanks for the picture. The one on my car looks different. I'll get the correct part put in. Any chance that you have a part number?

The assy manual lists three part numbers for non-station wagon, non W30 with power disc brakes:
1236002 code BS
5471483 code DS
1240647 code KS

I see no info at how to tell what applications each is for - odd....
Is is possible the second two numbers are alternate numbers??
