I have a 64 Olds 98, and the interior lights will burn out the fuse if the door is left open for a short time. Is this a short circuit situation, or more involved? I replace the fuse and the lights work, again, until the door gets left open again.

If the lights do come on, what size bulbs are you using?

The bulbs are all stock, haven't replaced any.

What series Ninety Eight? Town Sedans don't have near as many interior lamps as a Sport Sedan, Luxury Sedan or Custom Sports Coupe. Some series also have three cigar lighters which are all on that same circuit.

You should have a 25A fuse in that circuit for Ninety Eights. The fuse block will indicate 20A, but the service manual shows:

DOME-CTSY fuse- courtesy, dome and rear seat lighter, 3467 with Y67 (Dynamic 88 convert with deluxe interior trim), 3600 (Starfire) and 3800 (Ninety Eight), use AGC 25 amp fuse.

3300 (Jetstar 88) 3400 (Dynamic 88), 3500 (Super 88) use SAE 20 amp fuse.

If you use the correct AGC25 fuse and it blows, you need to start chasing a short to ground or find out which lamp(s) are drawing excessive load. If car has two rear lighters, remove them completely from their wells and see if it still blows the fuse.

It's a 98 Custom Sport, and it has lights in the rear pillars, rear counsel, side counsel. and both doors. It also has two lighters in the rear. I'll try a 25 Amp fuse and remove the rear lighters. I hope this does the trick, however I would like to have the rear lighters in place, for looks if nothing else. Thanks for the info.
