Horn Help!
Horn Help!
Ok school me on horns. I have five horns for my olds and none work. One worked for a short time. I am just testing them before on 12 volts. Correct?
I don't want to install them and chase my tail. Once they are bad do you toss them or can you tap them or turn the small screw head to make them work? I have never had a problem before this Jetfire.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You should be able to check them directly on a fully charged 12 volt battery by holding the mounting bracket to the battery's ground post and running a jumper wire to the post from the connection post of the horn. If the horn don't blow, I am hoping that the horn covers can be removed by screws (some later models are riveted )!After removing cover ,check for rusted or corroded areas. Most older horns had points that if corroded could be filed or cleaned with Emory cloth or sand paper. If it don't work ,then try moving the adjustment screw . Hope this works, Larry

Like Larry said, clean the points and readjust if necessary.
The adjustment procedure is in the CSM - it involves measuring the current draw and turning the screw (there's a special GM tool for the screw) until it's exactly 5A, if I recall.
If it's riveted together, you can drill out the rivets and replace them with screws, but it's probably a whole lot easier to just buy a horn at the junkyard or on eBay.
If you do take it apart, try to be careful of the paper gasket.
