Horn contact

I gave up on fixing my horn almost 2 years ago to move on with other issues. I have a 72 Cutlass with an aftermarket sport wheel. It seems like I needed a longer contact pin, is this correct and does anyone have a part number?

You need Dorman 83230 or equivalent. Same parts used on Corvette so readily available for $7-10. And the horn contact ring. I don’t have a part number for that one but here is one on eBay for $27.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/12414932375...Bk9SR6rs_ZDJYw

Your welcome. Also on the Dorman kit, the spring goes in the hole first, then the pin with the wider spot first, finally the plastic collar slides over the pin and locks it into place.

Which "ring"? The cancel cam?

Again, are you talking about the small black ring that holds the HORN CONTACT in the tube on the cancel cam, or the HORN CONTACT ring that is part of the cancel cam itself?

The small ring comes with the contact kit. 4speed says I also need the contact ring also. I don't know if I do or not.

If by contact ring you mean the spring-loaded ring that the horn cap snaps into, you can't mount the horn cap without it.

Sorry I didn’t mean to cause any confusion, I was just showing the correct parts to make your horn work.

Is this right? The wide end of the pin doesn'

t want to fit into the sleeve

I'm so close! one more question. Do the tabs on the contact ring go above or below the steering wheel? If I put them on top the horn doesn't sound, if I put them below I can't get the cap on.

Horn contact ring goes on AFTER the steering wheel is installed on to the hub. Sometimes there isn't enough "travel" allowed for the horn contact ring "springy" part to contact whatever it contacts to make the horns honk. You could try three small flat washers b/n the horn contact ring tabs (one under each tab) and the steering wheel face.....see if that gets the horn to work.

That did it! I had to grind the washers way down so they didn't make contact with the inner part of the ring, o-rings probably would have worked better.
Thanks for all the help guys!
