Horn button and Contact

I have a 1975 Hurst Olds (Cutlass) with the 4 spoke steering wheel. The contact for the horn was wrong so I got the unit with the little "L" shaped protrusion to contact with the spring-loaded contact coming up from the steering column. Well, lucky me,....so I go to put the button in place and the diameter of the new contact on the steering column is larger than the contact on the button so it won't stay in place! It could well be an after market button but, maybe a dumb question, but wouldn't tall the horn buttons be the same? Thanks for your help in advance.

Sorry, but I'm struggling to follow what is actually wrong. Are you saying that the horn button with the Olds emblem won't stay snapped into the horn ring? If so, you can bend the spring fingers inward.

Yes, that's it. But I don't want to wreck the new part should I have to return it!
