Help with electrical wires

While I had the dash out I figured I'd fix some of these cut wires. Does anyone know what they go to?
First one is grey and on drivers side left of the steering wheel. Car is a 72 442.

Second one is close to the first but seem to be a different shade of grey. Maybe they go together?

The last two are behind where the radio would be. The left one is grey and the right one is red. I'm a little colorblind so I'm going off what I'm told.

Looks like your Olds was the victim of a yahoo at some point in its life. You usually don't see that much buggered-up wiring behind an Olds dash. Chevrolet and Pontiac, yes.

How are your dash lights working? Gray wire is usually dash and instrument lighting.

I'm pretty sure Olds factory tach signal wire was brown or tan.

The red wire probably went to the lighter socket. See if it's hot with ignition switch OFF.

wildaboutcars.com should have the 72 color wiring diagram and the separate black and white line drawing for the Rallye Pac. There was one year, can't remember if it was 71 or 72, that the color diagram was a little fuzzy.

Gray is usually panel lighting. Red could be a few things, ignition, 4ways, or headlight switch.

Use the 71 electrical on WAC. It's the same as 72 but the 72 schematic is B & W. I agree the light harness is gray wires.

Havent started the car yet. Switched the dash out and still need to put the uncracked dash in, then put in the steering column. Then I'll see if lights work. I'll check out that wiring schematic.

Okay, I had to reformat a bit to see what you were talking about.

Unfortunately, I still can't see what you're talking about.

Grey under the dash should be dash lights, from the dimmer rheostat through the small dash lights fuse.
They either come from the dash light circuit, or go to particular dash light sockets - you've got to test and follow them to find out.

Red is not the cigarette lighter - that's orange.

Red, as Eric said, is only used on a few things behind the dash, so I would also question whether that wire is original.

The radio wires are Yellow (ACC power), Black (ground), and Grey (panel lamps).

Honestly, I can't make heads nor tails out of most of those pictures, so I really can't say more. If possible, I would recommend taking a few more pictures, preferably starting with one of the whole area, so we can see exactly where each part is, and then a few closer, and with a better light source, as these are all dark and yellow, and it's very hard to see the colors.

Also, you will find that the wiring schematics in the 1966 or '67 CSM in WAC are the clearest. Not every detail is the same as your car, but most are identical.

Checked the wiring diagram and the grey is for the lights. I need to get a battery for it and check the wires. I'll check out the 66-67 wiring schematics too. It was too hot to work in the garage this weekend. I'll check it out this week though. Thanks guys.

The one guy asked to see if it's hot with the ignition off doing that will eliminate several possibilities. Either way hot or cold half the things it could be you won't have to trouble shoot. Could also be a control wire for a mult speed motor. Intermittent wipers, heat/AC hi low etc.
