Several years ago I ditched the Points and Installed an HEI distributer on my 1971 Cutlass Convertible, 350 engine. All was well until yesterday when the car sputtered and quit. I was able to figure out I had no spark. A further investigation concluded the red "Hot" 12V wire going into the distributer is dead. When you turn the ignition switch to the "On" position this wire should go hot. Not happening. So, what should I look at next? Im thinking ignition switch, but not entirely sure. TIA!
You need to go to the source of where that wire is getting its power from. Most of us use the IGN terminal at the fuse block while others have replaced the resistance wire.
The wire did in fact go to the IGN Spade. I noticed the turn signal fuse was blown. After replacing the fuse, the Spade got hot when you turned the key on. Engine fired up.

Glad you got it figured out. Now look into what Fun71 said.
