Question Ground Straps

Hi Oldsmobile fans... I was changing the ATF, filter, and vacuum modulator (THM400) when I noticed an unattached ground strap above the transmission filler tube. One end is bolted to the fire wall, the other is not connected. Does anyone know where the other end is supposed to attached to? It looks like it may easily reach the engine block... and if that is the right spot, does anyone know what bolt size I would need to attach it to the block? Or perhaps it attaches to the transmission? Any suggestions?? Shoot... I wonder how many grounding straps are recommended and where should they attach? I have 1968 Delmont 88/455. Thanks for your help. I am just a DIYer building up my skills, 6 years ago I decided to try and do all the repairs on my cars myself. I gone from oil changes to brakes and rotors to half shaft replacements and a new clutch in my VW beetle. Rebuilt the quadrajet last summer and will be attempting to install a new distributor in the Olds this spring. I love this hobby!!!!!!

On the '70-'72 Cutlass, that ground strap attaches to the rear of the passenger side head. It's a short bolt, not sure of the size though. You can remove one of the bolts on the front of either head to find a match. There should be three holes on the rear of the head. Usually those get removed/cut when people change engines/heads, etc...
Hope this helps.

If the ground strap has a large lug on it, it should go under one of the bellhousing to block bolts.

On my '69 442 they were to the valve cover bolt.

Beautiful car by the way. Never seen one in that combo I don't think. I'd like to have a '68 or '69 Delta 88 Custom with the buckets & console & a 455 at some point, but who wouldn't, or one of the Delta Cop cars.

Thanks for the information. I would say the lug on the end of the braided wire has an opening approximately 3/8". If I did attach using one of the bellhousing to block bolts, when I look at my service manual, is that the same as "Transmission Case to Cylinder Block Bolt" and requires 30 ft-lbs of torque? Just want to be sure.

Thanks for the comment about my car's looks. It does look great for its age! I too have been looking for a Delmont/Delta police cruiser. Here's a Dodge cruiser that always intrigues me when I drive by: http://www.motocar-antique-auto.com/...edvehicles.htm Just like the Olds better!!!!!!!
