Gas Gauge Always on Empty (69 Cutlass S)
Hi All: This is my first post. Coming down to the end of a 10 year resto on my 69 Cutlas S Convertible. I need a bit of advice related to my non-working gas gauge. It is on "E" and stays on "E" when full or empty. Should I be looking at fuse, sender ground wire, sender wire to gauge, sender unit itself or all of the above? I would like to not drop the tank but will if that's what it takes. I do not want to do the milage v. gallons drill. Any advice on where to look first would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis
Thanks,

What to look for --- The tank unit is actually a variable resistance ( approx. 0 to 90 ohms) to ground. If there is an open circuit, such as a broken wire, the gauge will always read "full". If the lead is shorted to ground, the gauge will always read "empty". This is presuming the dash unit is good. Failure of the tank unit usually results in a "full" reading. Happy hunting, Bruce
