Fuel Gauge Issue

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so please excuse the question I'm sure this issue has been addressed a million times. Just can't find the correct thread. I purchased a 65 442. Fuel gauge will not read past 1/4. This has a new tank and sending unit. When I disconnect the signal wire from sending unit and direct ground the signal wire, gauge goes to empty. I thought zero resistance would put it to full? I took the resistor of the back of the gauge and cleaned up terminals hoping that might be the issue, but same result. Any thoughts that might help out??

The gauge is 90-0 ohms, so wire disconnected (infinite resistance) is FULL and wire grounded (zero resistance) is EMPTY. What does it read if you just disconnect the wire to the tank? Also, note that the 1964 and earlier senders are 30-0 ohms. If the open circuit test shows the gauge at FULL, verify that you have the correct 1965 sender and not a 1964 sender.

Thank you for the advise Joe. When I pull the signal wire, the gauge goes to full. I put a ohm meter on the sending unit and It's reading 32.4 ohms. I' guessing whoever installed the new tank and sending unit apparently installed the wrong sending unit. I will order a 90 ohm and repost how it turns out.

Thank you again Joe!
