Express window down module
Express window down module
i am getting ready to build a new power window wire harness for my dads 81 GMC truck (originally diesel powered, now 455 powered😎
The original harness has many broken wires and previous broken wire repairs in the door jamb, not to mention the windows are SLOW, even after new switches, motors, and lubing. I’m going to build this harness with relays and eliminate the troublesome factory setup these trucks and other GM cars of this vintage suffer from. My question, when I started researching this project I remember reading somewhere that someone did this very project, but included a express window down module (some people call it one touch down power window). For the life of me, I can’t find the article. Sure, I could buy a aftermarket module to do this, but like I said, I’m cheap, and don’t want to buy what I can build or modify myself. I want to say I remember the module used was from a 4th gen F car, but those require a specific switch to function. The module described simply used the widow down trigger to energize the motor, when it sense a major increase in current it knew the motor stalled and shut it off. Anybody in readerland know what article, module, or other information that might be useful for this project?

Matt:
I stumbled onto your post while researching power window install pics for my project. I have a couple of GM express down modules if you're still looking, came from '94-'99 Buick, GM#25614182.
edit: I just listed one for sale. Here's the link: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...0/#post1231230

While we're digging up old stuff, stand-alone modules were very common in 90's Fords. Crawl your local pull-a-part looking for blue modules, about the size of a deck of cards, with a bunch of wires in the doors of the Ford cars.
I did find a few, and once I figured out how to adapt them to the dual relay homemade wiring harness I built, the work very well. I doubt the windows on the truck moved that fast when it was new.
I'm very interested in the #25614182 module you have for sale. I live in Manitoba R0.

I don’t think I still have that oem window module; I’ll look when I get home. I ultimately used a window control module from DEI that will provide one-touch up & down but will not work with the early factory window motors and switches. To use the DEI module I had to build a custom switch and motor harness using late model motors and switches from 90’s era cars.

One-Touch Window Control
Rodney:
The DEI 535t module can control 2 windows in both directions (auto up & down) or 4 windows in one direction (auto down). The included installation docs were very clearly written and shows you how to cut into your existing wiring to extract the switch position and the motor control. I purchased my modules from SonicElectronix.com but they are currently out of stock. I attached the install docs in pdf form below. Good luck.
